2011-'12 playoffs: Did not qualify
Coach: Ralph Krueger (0-0-0, 1st NHL year, 1st team)
Top returning scorer: C Jordan Eberle (34 goals, 42 assists, 76 points)
Top returning goalie: Devyn Dubnyk (20-20-3, 3.67, .914)
Key additions: D Justin Schultz; LW Dane Byers; D Mark Fistric.

Goaltending: Dubynk has shown flashes of brilliance as an NHLer, but has yet to display he can be a consistent night in and night out No. 1 NHL netminder. Couldn’t spark interest from a European team during lockout, but did backstop Canada to the Spengler Cup title. Back-up Nikolai Khabibulin has been bothered by hip problems and may not be ready for the start of the season.
Player to watch: D Justin Schultz. Hotly-pursued after he became a free agent when Ducks, who drafted him, opted not to sign him, Schultz was leading the AHL in scoring when the lockout ended. He’ll add another high-end young skill player to a team already loaded with such talent.
Icing: Krueger has coached the Swiss national team for the past 113 years, including the club that shut out Canada in pool play at the 2006 Winter Olympics . . . Oilers staged an outdoor game of shinny for their fans during training camp . . . Edmonton D Jeff Petry is the son of Dan Petry, a starting pitcher with the 1984 World Series champion Detroit Tigers.
PHT: Sidney Crosby scored three times, surpassing 100 career playoff points, and the Penguins staved off the Senators for a win in Game 2.
