Stanley Cups: 1
2011-'12 record: 37-29-7-9, 90 points (2nd in Northwest, 9th in West)
2011-'12 playoffs: Did not qualify
Coach: Bob Hartley (329-226-95, 10th NHL year, 3rd team)
Top returning scorer: RW Jarome Iginla (32 goals, 35 assists, 67 points)
Top returning goalie: Miikka Kiprusoff (35-22-11, 2.35, .921)
Key additions: C Jiri Hudler; D Dennis Wideman.
Key subtractions: C Olli Jokinen; RW Tom Kotsopoulos; D Scott Hannan; RW David Moss.
Goaltending: Kiprusoff will again carry the load for the Flames. He played in 70 games last season, his seventh straight season of 70 or more appearances. He’s won at least 35 games in each of the last six seasons.
Player to watch: LW Sven Baertschi. Calgary’s top choice in the 2011 entry draft, the Flames appeared to be sending him a message of his importance to the team during training camp, when they situated his stall next to that of team captain Iginla. He scored three goals in a five-game stint last season.
Icing: Iginla’s streak of 11-straight 30-goal seasons, which include two Rocket Richard Trophy-winning campaigns, figures to be snuffed out by the shortened 48-game season . . . He’s also been idled during training camp by a groin issue . . . Hartley led the Colorado Avalanche to the Stanley Cup and Presidents’ Trophy titles in 2000-01.
Live Extra: The Senators get a key player back tonight in star center Jason Spezza, but the Penguins looked strong in winning the first two games.
PHT: The Bruins took a 2-0 series lead over the New York Rangers in this best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal with a 5-2 victory on Sunday evening.
