Hanley out eight weeks after thumb surgery
Hanley Ramirez - SS - Los Angeles Dodgers
March 23, 2013 - 2:00 PM ET

Hanley Ramirez underwent successful surgery on his right thumb Friday.

Ramirez had a torn ligament in the thumb repaired and is expected to miss eight weeks, so he's unlikely to make his season debut until late-May. The Dodgers are giving Luis Cruz the first shot at shortstop while Juan Uribe, Nick Punto and Jerry Hairston Jr. are expected to share playing time at third base. Dee Gordon could be an option at shortstop if Cruz struggles.
