Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Tuesday that no decision has been made yet on whether Rick Porcello or Drew Smyly will open 2013 as the team's fifth starter.
Leyland added that the decision will come down to the final days of spring training, and that he'll have all six of his starters ready to throw 100 pitches. Porcello has been lights-out through five spring starts, now with a 2.50 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 18/0 K/BB ratio over 18 innings. Still just 24 years old, he could be poised for a breakout season. The only question is whether that will be for the Tigers or a new team.
