Matt Adams likely to make Cardinals' roster

Matt Adams is expected to have a bench spot on the Cardinals' Opening Day roster.
The Cardinals released Ronny Cedeno on Tuesday, which means Daniel Descalso will be the team's utility infielder, Matt Carpenter will start at second base and Adams will serve as a backup to Allen Craig at first. On days that Carlos Beltran needs rest, Craig can play right field and Adams can take over at first base. Craig will also be able to back up Matt Holliday in left field. Adams, 24, hit .329 with a .986 OPS and 18 home runs in 67 games last year at Triple-A Memphis.
