Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that Daisuke Matsuzaka's chances of making the Indians' Opening Day roster "have apparently come to an end."
Matsuzaka struck out five over three innings of one-run ball Saturday in a minor league game, but he's been limited to just three Grapefruit League innings due to a calf injury. "We've got to figure out what to do going forward," said manager Terry Francona. "Because of the setback and coming into camp without throwing bullpens, he's only out to three innings. We're starting to run out of innings. We're going to have to sit down and figure this out and we will." When asked if Matsuzaka would report to the minors or opt out of his contract, Francona said "I'm not ready for that conversation yet."
