Mets interested in locking up 1B Ike Davis

Mets GM Sandy Alderson stated his interest Thursday in signing Ike Davis to a contract extension that would cover his first three years of salary arbitration.
Davis and the Mets avoided arbitration this winter by agreeing to a one-year, $3.125 million deal. Nothing is in the works yet, and it's unknown whether Davis would even be interested in signing an extension, but the Mets would be wise to explore the opportunity. The 26-year-old first baseman slugged 32 homers in 2012, despite battling Valley Fever and getting off to an exceptionally slow start. One of the most powerful hitters in the National League, Davis should be expected to post another 30-homer campaign in 2013.
