Rangers to deal Andrus over winter if no ext.
Elvis Andrus - SS - Texas Rangers
March 14, 2013 - 9:00 PM ET

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Rangers are likely to trade Elvis Andrus next offseason if they're unable to sign him to an extension before then.

Heyman notes Texas is "said not to be overly optimistic" they can ink Andrus to a long-term deal. It's no secret that the Rangers have two highly talented shortstops in Andrus and Jurickson Profar, and it makes more sense to deal Andrus since he's slated to hit free agency after the 2014 campaign. Heyman adds that Texas has offered Andrus two extensions in the past, but the Scott Boras client is more inclined to test the free agent waters.
