Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Tuesday that it's "fair to say" that Francisco Cervelli will be the team's Opening Day catcher.
The Yankees optioned prospect catcher Austin Romine to the minors earlier this week, which means that Cervelli will handle the bulk of the catching duties over Chris Stewart. The 27-year-old backstop is a .271/.339/.353 hitter over 562 plate appearances in the majors, but doesn't have much pop and won't be worth using outside of AL-only fantasy leagues.
