Dickey hit hard as Team USA falls to Mexico
R.A. Dickey - S - Toronto Blue Jays
March 9, 2013 - 12:55 AM ET

R.A. Dickey was tagged for four runs over four innings as Team USA lost to Mexico in their World Baseball Classic opener on Friday.

Dickey allowed two runs in the first inning and then surrendered a long two-run home run to Adrian Gonzalez in the third. Most of the six hits he gave up were struck pretty hard, which is an indication that his knuckler simply wasn't knuckling. Team USA held Mexico to just one run the rest of the way, but they couldn't dig themselves out from the early hole. Team USA is now 0-1 in Pool D play and will face must-win games against Italy on Saturday night and Canada on Sunday afternoon.
