Evan Gattis went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and a double as a Braves split-squad beat the Astros 14-9 on Friday.
Gattis is 11-for-25 with two homers, three doubles and 11 RBI this spring. Working against him in his quest to win a bench spot is that he's yet to have a single Triple-A at-bat in his career. Then again, he's already 26, and he offers some flexibility with his ability to catch and play the outfield. Perhaps the Braves will keep him until Brian McCann is ready and then reevaluate things.
