Padres manager Bud Black said the ball was coming out of Andrew Cashner's (thumb) hand "great" during live batting practice Thursday.
"He's close," the skipper added. Cashner could be ready for his Cactus League debut as soon as next week. It sounds like the hard-throwing righty could be ready for the start of the season, and if he's not should only miss a start or two. His strikeout potential and home park make him an intriguing fantasy option.
