Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that Tigers manager Jim Leyland is interested in bringing back free agent reliever Jose Valverde.
The Tigers could look to re-sign Valverde as insurance for their bullpen, but only want him back at their price. However, a deal between the sides doesn't appear to be imminent. Valverde had been hoping to use the World Baseball Classic to audition for a job somewhere, but recently opted out due to a personal issue. While the Tigers would clearly prefer that Bruce Rondon run away with the closer job, Valverde would give them another alternative if the hard-throwing rookie struggles.
