Padres manager Bud Black said Friday that he's "hopeful" Andrew Cashner will be able to throw off of a mound as early as next week.
Cashner required emergency surgery in December after suffering a lacerated tendon in his right thumb during a hunting accident. He's striving to be ready for Opening Day and as made it a goal to break camp with the team. The 26-year-old has a great deal of upside, but has had a hard time staying on the field in recent years. His high-strikeout potential makes him a worthwhile target in the later rounds of fantasy drafts.
