Halladay endorses Hamels for Opening Day
Cole Hamels - S - Philadelphia Phillies
Feb. 21, 2013 - 3:00 PM ET

Roy Halladay has endorsed Cole Hamels to start Opening Day.

Halladay has started 10 season openers in a row, including three during his time with the Phillies, but he believes this is Hamels' time to establish himself as the ace. "He deserves that and I think that's the way it should be," said Halladay. "It's his time. It should have been his spot a long time ago. It's time for him to establish himself as the head of the staff." Phillies manager Charlie Manuel has yet to announce an Opening Day starter, but the comments from Rich Dubee earlier this week indicate that the club will go with Hamels, Halladay, and Cliff Lee to start the season.
