Havens says he'll likely never be 100 percent
Reese Havens - 2B - New York Mets
Feb. 15, 2013 - 7:55 PM ET

Mets prospect second baseman Reese Havens conceded Friday that he'll likely never be 100 percent due to persistent back issues.

"I'm going to have back problems," said Havens, a first-round pick of the Mets in 2008. "It's just, I've learned how to try to stay on top of my back with doing core [workouts] and stretching and stuff. That's just what I've got to do." The injury-riddled Havens hit a disappointing .215/.340/.351 with 10 homers at Double-A Binghamton last season, but is optimistic after taking part in an offseason training program. The potential is still there, but the Mets could have to make a tough decision if they need room on their 40-man roster before the start of the season.
