Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said Didi Gregorius (elbow) is "probably two weeks away from starting a throwing program."
The Diamondbacks' offseason acquisition is dealing with a "slight" UCL issue in his right elbow. While the injury isn't expected to require surgery, it means that Gregorius will not begin the season with the major league club. Arizona will likely go with Cliff Pennington as their primary shortstop, with Willie Bloomquist and John McDonald also seeing time there.
