Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post writes that the Nationals "may try to swoop in and sign" free agent right-hander Kyle Lohse.
The idea would be to add him as insurance in case left-hander Gio Gonzalez faces a 50-game suspension for his reported connection to Biogenesis, a Miami-based clinic which allegedly distributed performance-enhancing drugs to players. Lohse's market has taken a big hit this winter because he is tied to draft pick compensation, but he would still figure to be expensive insurance. Still, the possibility can't be ruled out given the relationship between the Nationals and Lohse's agent, Scott Boras. The Nationals already gave up their first-round pick to sign fellow Boras-client Rafael Soriano, so adding Lohse means they would have to surrender their second-round pick.
