Felix Hernandez extension 'still on track'
Felix Hernandez - S - Seattle Mariners
Feb. 11, 2013 - 1:40 PM ET

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Felix Hernandez's seven-year, $175 million contract extension with the Mariners is "still on track" and could be announced "in next day or two."

It appears that too much was made of a report from ESPN's Buster Olney that an issue with Hernandez's elbow was holding up the extension. There is something minor going on, but Rosenthal says the Mariners will insert language in King Felix's contract to protect themselves against future elbow trouble. The Yankees did something similar with CC Sabathia and a potential shoulder injury when they inked him to a long-term extension. Hernandez is expected to report to spring training Tuesday and will be on a normal routine.
