Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune writes that the Padres "want Jedd Gyorko to win the second base job."
Center notes that "there is a concern" about the defense of Gyorko, who is a natural third baseman. There are no questions about his bat, though, as he's coming off a year where he hit .311/.373/.547 with 30 homers and 100 RBI between Double- and Triple-A. If the top prospect does indeed win the job, he makes for a big-time fantasy sleeper. The Padres have asked Logan Forsythe to start taking fly balls in the outfield, an indication that they are perhaps prepping him for a super utility role.
