Freese, Cards avoid arb. with one-year deal

Cardinals avoided arbitration with 3B David Freese by agreeing to a one-year contract.
Goold says the deal will be north of $3 million, so it should be right around the midpoint ($3.075 million) of arbitration figures that were exchanged last month. Freese, who was arbitration-eligible for the first time, batted .293/.372/.467 with 20 homers and 79 RBI in 2012.
