M's designate RHP Kelley for assignment

Mariners designated RHP Shawn Kelley for assignment.
The move clears a spot for the newly-signed Kelly Shoppach on the 40-man roster. The Mariners and Kelley avoided arbitration last week by agreeing to a one-year, $935,000 contract. If he is claimed on waivers, his new team will be responsible for his salary for 2013. The 28-year-old right-hander had a 3.25 ERA and 45/15 K/BB ratio over 44 1/3 innings last year, so he should draw interest.
