CBS' Jason La Canfora expects the Redskins to make "every effort" to sign OLB Brian Orakpo to a long-term extension this offseason.
Orakpo is entering the final year of his rookie contract, but is coming off his second pectoral tear in as many seasons. Orakpo's production ' 29.5 sacks in 49 career games ' warrants an extension, but his health could inspire the Redskins to roll the dice and put off long-term talks for another year. Orakpo's sub-$4 million cap number could be another reason the cap-strapped Skins delay talks. Orakpo has reason to wait, as well, as any extension agreed to this offseason would surely be of the "team friendly" variety. The Redskins could always franchise tag Orakpo if they fail to lock him up and he regains form in 2013.
