Red Sox ink Overbay to minor league deal
Lyle Overbay - 1B - Boston Red Sox
Feb. 1, 2013 - 9:55 AM ET

Red Sox signed 1B Lyle Overbay to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Assuming Overbay makes the Opening Day roster, he'll earn $1.25 million, with a possible $250,000 more in incentives. He can opt out of the contract if he doesn't make the Red Sox out of spring training. Overbay, 36, batted .259/.331/.397 with two homers and a .727 OPS in 131 plate appearances last season between the Diamondbacks and Braves. He will give Boston an option on days when they want to rest Mike Napoli or David Ortiz.
