D-Backs hope to extend Prado for 3-4 years
Martin Prado - 3B - Arizona Diamondbacks
Jan. 24, 2013 - 4:50 PM ET

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Diamondbacks are "quite optimistic" about soon agreeing to a three- or four-year extension with Martin Prado.

Prado is currently due to become a free agent following the 2013 season, but the Diamondbacks picked him up from the Braves on Thursday with the idea of keeping him for the long-term. The 29-year-old batted .301/.359/.438 with 10 homers, 70 RBI and 17 steals in 156 games last season for Atlanta and is slated to be Arizona's starting third baseman moving forward.
