Cardinals and RHP Jason Motte avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two-year, $12 million contract.
The deal covers the 30-year-old closer's final two seasons of arbitration eligibility. Motte, a former catcher, has quickly become one of the best relievers in baseball. He registered a dominant 2.75 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 86/17 K/BB ratio in 72 innings last summer for St. Louis while leading the National League with 42 saves.
