Browns: Chip Kelly was too much of a 'gamble'

Browns CEO Joe Banner said hiring Chip Kelly was too big of a "gamble."

"We removed ourselves from the process," said Banner. "We really liked Chip. But you could see he was uncertain what he wanted to do. The fact he committed to Tampa Bay last year, backed out, then seemed all year to be leaning toward going to the NFL, then being so uncertain with us, we just felt it was too big a gamble. If there was no ambivalence, we may have offered him the job." Banner just sounds like a sore loser after losing out to his old pal Howie Roseman in Philly. If Kelly would have wanted to go to the Browns, Banner and company would have gladly handed him a blank check. Instead, they settled for an intriguing threesome of Rob Chudzinski, Norv Turner, and Ray Horton.
