Angels close to two-year deal with Callaspo
Alberto Callaspo - 3B - Los Angeles Angels
Jan. 17, 2013 - 10:05 PM ET

The Angels are nearing agreement on a two-year contract with infielder Alberto Callaspo, according to beat writer Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.

The deal, if finalized under the reported terms, will buy out Callaspo's final season of arbitration eligibility and his first year of free agency. MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez says it's worth around $9 million. Callaspo, 29, batted .252/.331/.361 with 10 homers and 53 RBI in 138 games last season for the Angels. He will serve as Anaheim's regular third baseman for the foreseeable future.
