Jeter (ankle) expected to be ready for season

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Monday that he expects Derek Jeter (ankle) to be ready for Opening Day.
Jeter underwent surgery on his fractured left ankle in late October and is now out of a walking boot. Cashman said the veteran shortstop has been walking and running on an underwater treadmill and the ESPN New York report says he was recently seen riding a bicycle near his home in Florida. The 38-year-old isn't expected to be cleared for baseball activities before mid-to-late January, but for now, everything has progressed as hoped. "It's all in the doctors' hands right now," said Cashman. "But he'll be ready on Opening Day."
