THE HAGUE, Netherlands - The Dutch football association has canceled all amateur matches for the coming weekend as a mark of respect for a volunteer linesman who was fatally attacked after a youth match last Sunday.
The Royal Netherlands Football Association says that professional teams will hold a minute's silence before their weekend matches and players and officials will wear black armbands.
The cancellations follow the death Monday of linesman Richard Nieuwenhuizen, a day after he was attacked by players following a match involving youth teams from clubs Buitenboys and Nieuw Sloten.
