Padres acquired RHP Tyson Ross and 1B A.J. Kirby-Jones from the Athletics in exchange for LHP Andrew Werner and INF Andy Parrino.
Ross has a pretty big arm, but he struggled to remain healthy for the A's and posted a 6.50 ERA over 73 1/3 innings for them in 2012. It's not clear at this point whether the Padres plan to use him as a starter or reliever. Kirby-Jones is an undersized first baseman who isn't much of a prospect. Werner will give the A's some rotation depth but is more of a swingman, while Parrino should be able to win a utility job in Oakland.
