Drew Smyly - S - Detroit Tigers
July 7, 2012 - 12:40 AM ET

Drew Smyly was outstanding on Friday, racking up a career-high 10 strikeouts en route to a victory over the visiting Royals.

Smyly allowed two runs on six hits over his six innings of work, while walking none. He became the first rookie pitcher in the rich history of the Detroit Tigers to record 10 or more strikeouts in a game without walking a batter. The rookie left-hander has performed fairly well as the fifth starter in the Tigers rotation, posting a 4-3 record, 4.42 ERA and 75/21 K/BB ratio over 79 1/3 innings.
