NHL players are once again voting as to whether they want to grant authority to their management committee to disclaim interest in their union.
The previous vote was fairly one-sided, but the time period to disclaim expired midnight on Wednesday. The vote started Thursday night at 6:00 pm and will continue until Saturday at 6:00 pm. This is strictly a leverage move on the part of the NHLPA. It allows the players to keep all of their options open should progress in the CBA negotiations cease. The union also filed a response the NHL's lawsuit in which the NHL requested a declaration deeming the lockout valid if the NHLPA dissolved. Again, this was just a procedural matter. Settlement talks are expected to resume Friday.
