July 23, 2012 - 12:40 PM ET

The Capitals hired Tim Hunter as their assistant coach.

Adam Oates' first hire was first-time assistant Calle Johansson, and his second is one with a bit more experience, as Hunter has 1,041 games under his belt in the assistant role with Ron Wilson. The 51-year-old also played for 16 seasons and won a Stanley Cup with the Calgary Flames in 1989.
