Josh Bell - DB - Green Bay Packers

Packers signed CB Josh Bell.

Bell is in his second season out of Baylor. He started five games for Denver last year in place of Champ Bailey but was released before the 2009 season after suffering a knee injury. Bell adds depth with Al Harris on I.R.

Jeremy Navarre - DL - Jacksonville Jaguars

Jaguars signed DE Jeremy Navarre off their practice squad.

Navarre isn't explosive enough to help the Jags' lackluster pass rush. He'll be low on the depth chart behind starters Quentin Groves and Derrick Harvey.

Bryan Smith - DL - Jacksonville Jaguars

Jaguars placed DE Bryan Smith (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season.

The injury was announced as a shoulder "sprain," but was likely at least a dislocation. Smith was recently promoted to the starting lineup at right defensive end, despite having zero sacks on the year. He'll have a roster spot in 2010, but the Jags would do well to find a better first-team option.

Leigh Torrence - DB - New Orleans Saints

Saints placed CB Leigh Torrence on injured reserve with a separated shoulder, ending his season.

Torrence, the Saints' No. 5 cornerback for most of the season, finishes up with 10 tackles and a half sack. The 27-year-old old is a favorite of defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, but the Saints' increased CB depth will put Torrence on the roster bubble if he's retained in restricted free agency.

Chad Rinehart - G - Washington Redskins

Redskins placed G/T Chad Rinehart on injured reserve with a broken fibula, ending his season.

Rinehart made four starts at guard in his second year and was mostly ineffective. A third-round pick in 2008, he's made no obvious strides and is unlikely to return in 2010 with more than a substitute "swing" role on the team.

Ladell Betts - RB - Washington Redskins

Redskins placed RB Ladell Betts on injured reserve with a torn MCL and ACL, ending his season.

He'll need reconstructive knee surgery. Already lacking game-breaking speed, Betts isn't a sure thing to stay with the Skins in 2010 despite a manageable $1.65 million salary. He's also likely to miss all pre-training camp workouts. Washington needs to begin searching for a long-term replacement for declining Clinton Portis. At 31 next season, Betts isn't it.

Jason Ferguson - DL - Miami Dolphins

Dolphins placed NT Jason Ferguson on injured reserve with a torn quadriceps muscle, ending his season.

The injury was initially believed to be to Ferguson's knee, but coach Tony Sparano clarified Monday that it's to his thigh. The Fins have a capable reserve nose tackle in Paul Soliai, who is much bigger and younger than Ferguson. Last offseason, the 35-year-old Ferguson stated that he would retire in 2010 if Miami didn't extend his contract. His current deal is expiring.
