Bulls' top pick Derrick Rose will head to court next week for a hearing on his April 29 speeding ticket received in Kane Cty, Ill. The misdemeanor offense will likely result in a fine and traffic school.

One of the first challenges for No. 1 NBA draft pick Derrick Rose has nothing to do with a basketball court.

The Chicago Bulls' rookie point guard will head to court next week for a hearing on a speeding ticket incurred on April 29, two weeks after declaring his early entry into the NBA Draft. Rose was cited for allegedly driving 106 mph in a 65-mph zone on Interstate 88 in Kane County, Ill. at 2:58 a.m., the Chicago Tribune reported.

The vehicle used by Rose at the time was a 2008 Land Rover truck registered to the Wasserman Media Group, a management firm that represents the rookie. Rose was picked up on the Reagan Tollway, his attorney, Terry Ekl told the Chicago Tribune. Ekl added that it was Rose's first ever traffic ticket.

Because of the high speed he was driving at, Rose faces a maximum penalty of one year in jail.  But since he's a first time offender, he'll likely be forced to pay a fine and attend traffic school for the misdemanor crime.

A team spokesman said the team was aware of the traffic charge, but would not comment further. Rose said it was a "dumb" thing to do and a "big mistake" that he vowed would never happen again, NBC5 Chicago reported.
