Brandon Marshall broke?
Chatter is flying around NFL circles that a major reason behind the push for a new contract that is driving Brandon Marshall's trade demands is that the receiver is having money trouble. His status as a fourth-round pick means he isn't playing with a huge contract by league standards, and he maintains three residences in Denver, Orlando and Atlanta, respectively. Time to work on picking up some endorsement deals. (Pro Football Talk)
Urlacher not surprised Bears passing on Burress
Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher was not shocked that the Bears seem to be passing on wide receiver Plaxico Burress. "I was surprised when I heard they were going after him at all because as a player, I [know there will be] some type of suspension," Urlacher said. Urlacher later added that if the Bears were to sign Burress he would welcome him, although it would be hard not knowing if and when he'd be available. (Chicago Tribune)
Morning tidbits
Favre Vikings jerseys aren’t coming just yet
Word keeps coming that the NFL has signed deals to have Brett Favre Vikings jerseys mass produced but someone in the league office is saying such talk is bogus. However, there may be some validity to the idea that Reebok has already prepared a potential Favre Vikings jersey so that if a deal gets done, the production can get underway rapidly. Don’t want to miss out on one potential dollar. If Favre doesn’t sign, those test jerseys are going to be worth a lot of dough. (St. Paul Pioneer Press)
Former Buc Brooks linked to two teams
Derrick Brooks spent 14 seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before they surprised him with the axe at the end of last season. So now the linebacker is looking for a new home and word is that two teams are interested in bringing the old guy onboard. Both the New York Giants and the New Orleans Saints have apparently expressed interest, but talks with both are supposedly not very far into the process. (ProFootballTalk)
Phil Dawson
has been the placekicker for the Cleveland Browns since 1999. He’s settled down in Ohio with his wife and three kids, all under the age of eight. But he’s apparently ready to pick up and move if the Browns don’t give him what he wants. And the Browns appear to be ready to not give him what he wants. Dawson wants a new deal and he has been skipping voluntary practices to prove his point but Cleveland signed a rookie free agent kicker (
Parker Douglass) to potentially replace him. Plus, there are a couple of veteran kickers (
Matt Stovernd
John Carney) who are still on the free-agent market. (NFL.com/Twitter)
