Landis’ last chance to regain Tour title

Cyclist begins final step in his appeals process

NEW YORK - Floyd Landis began the final step in his appeals process Wednesday in the first of a five-day hearing in front of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Landis hopes CAS will restore the 2006 Tour de France title that was stripped after an arbitration hearing last year in which arbitrators ruled he used performance-enhancing drugs during his victory.

Unlike that hearing, the CAS proceeding is closed to the public and media.

The CAS hearing is considered the final step in the appeals process, one a former Landis assistant estimated was costing the cyclist about $2 million.
